Learning Our Letters

Image
The children painted clothes pins with water color paint. We wrote all the letters, "upper" and "lower" case on the clothes pins. The children can put the alphabet in order using the black board as a visual aid. We made delicious vegan alphabet cookies. We measured, mixed and rolled out the dough. Everyone got to pick out their favorite letter. Alphabats!!! Everyone is working on their fine motor skills as well as learning about the letters in the alphabet. We read the book The Alphabet Tree.

My Name Is Special

Image
We have been very busy and productive in the preschool. We ended our "all about me" unit by talking about our names. We read many books about names, what they mean, where they come from and how important they are! We learned the letters in our name and stamped them on cards. We thought about what our name means to us. We got some really great answers! They also picked their favorite letter of the alphabet. They found the "upper case" and "lower case" and stamped them on their card. The seniors are starting to learn to write their name. They traced their highlighted name and drew pictures of themselves.

My House

Image
We have been talking a lot about where we live. Why do we need a place to live?  Do other types of animals have homes too? We read a great book about a little house that lived in the country. Slowly the city moved closer and closer to the little house. The house was forgotten and sad in the city until a distant family member noticed the house and had it moved back to the country. We got this awesome play house for our classroom this week and the kids built the city moving in around the the little house. We also spent time talking about what kinds of things are inside our homes. We drew pictures of some of the rooms in our houses. We also drew pictures of the outside of our houses. We did the outline in pencil. We colored them using oil pastels. We water colored over the entire picture to create a beautiful color-resist effect. The finished art is hanging in our middle room.  Please take the time to find your home!
